Chiropractic care can help to relieve many uncomfortable symptoms while you are pregnant. Not only are chiropractic adjustments safe during pregnancy, but it’s an excellent decision to get adjusted while you are pregnant.

Why is it a good idea to get adjusted? As is probably apparent, your body is going through quite a lot of changes, and these changes will continue as the pregnancy progresses. A subtle change is your body’s increased production of the hormone elastin. This hormone is designed to relax the tendons in the pelvis. This relaxation allows the pelvis more flexibility during the birthing process to make delivering the baby easier.

This process, despite the fact that its function is to assist the mother during labor, can create a lot of back pain in the months leading up to the birth. As the pregnancy advances, more elastin is released, which allows the pelvis to become increasingly more unstable. In combination with the increased size of the baby and uterus, and you have the formula for severe low back pain. As a chiropractor I see many pregnant women in my practice for a variety of symptoms, but as a rule it is for their low back pain.

One side benefit of having your spine and pelvis checked by a chiropractor regularly during your pregnancy is that it has been shown to actually decrease labor time. How can it do that? Simply put, if the pelvis is where it needs to be, the muscles contracting during the labor process are more efficient because they don’t have to fight past misaligned joints.

chiropractic is not only safe and beneficial in relieving the low back pain associated with pregnancy, but other symptoms like heartburn, nausea, swelling, and so on. In addition, should the need arise, a trained chiropractor can assist a mother who has a breached baby. This is done by using the Webster Technique, a low force technique to manipulate the uterus and get the baby into the proper presentation for delivery. A simple Google search on the Webster Technique can give you much more information.

In summation: Not only is chiropractic safe for pregnant women and their baby, it is also very beneficial in helping with the symptoms associated with their pregnancy. To any pregnant woman reading this, I advise you to please go to see your chiropractor. Chiropractic care can make you quite a bit more comfortable in the months of your pregnancy, and make your labor process easier.

Chiropractors, like your Dallas Chiropractor, are committed to making sure their patients know the importance of drinking plenty of water everyday. The mantra is “Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate!” Water comes in a close second when it comes to human survival. So, it would seem that drinking a healthy amount of water would be as instinctual as breathing in a sufficient quantity of air, but an astonishing 75% of Americans suffer from mild, incessant dehydration. (Most individuals aren’t breathing enough either, but that topic is for another time.) Your good health is based on your drinking water, and plenty of it. Every cell, tissue, organ and system in the human body relies on the water you drink to function healthfully. Water is the foundation for saliva and the fluids surrounding the joints. Water balances the temperature and metabolism of the body, and keeps the blood circulating. The improvement of nutrient absorption and toxin removal, as well as the reduction of heartburn, hypertension, exhaustion, headaches, and even back pain have been attributed to the daily intake of plenty of water.

Athletes are particularly at risk when it comes to functional challenges caused by dehydration. “Physiologically, their core body temperature could be higher than it should have been if they were hydrated. Their heart rate will be higher, and they’re going to perceive that they’re working harder than they actually are,” said Susan Yeargin, assistant professor of athletic training in Indiana State’s College of Nursing, Health, and Human Services. According to researchers at Indiana State University, a high percentage of collegiate and professional athletes begin the season dehydrated, putting their health at risk even before they begin strenuous workouts. In fact, Pre-season physical examinations, in fact, found that 80 percent of football players exhibited dehydration.

Wondering how much water is enough water? Chiropractors, like most health care professionals, suggest no less than eight, 8-ounce glasses of water every day for quite a few of our patients, but for our athletic patients, or for patients who carry around excess weight or exercise or work where it’s hot, we recommend even more. There is a fairly easy way for you to know if you’re drinking a healthful quantity water. Your urine color is a good indicator. You’re well-hydrated if it comes out a light, pale yellow!
